Reference02 / FAQ
Dome warehouses
What are dome warehouses used for?
Reinforced concrete dome structures are designed for the storage and transshipment of all types of bulk cargoes, such as mineral fertilizers.
Our projects also include dome structures for agriculture, commercial real estate, a baseball stadium and cement clinker silos.
What are the advantages of dome warehouses?
The strongest and most durable warehouse structures.
Short construction times and costs 30% lower than typical warehouse structures.
Large capacity, internal space without intermediate supports.
Waterproof, no condensation, environmentally friendly cargo storage and transshipment.
No snow loads, reduced wind loads and high seismic resistance.
How much does a dome warehouse cost?
Construction cost is 30% lower than typical warehouse structures. The cost of a specific facility is calculated per project — leave a request and we will contact you.
Leave a requestHow long does it take to build a dome?
For structures under 45 m in diameter, the construction period is less than 3 months after the foundation is prepared.
Foundation construction timelines generally do not differ from traditional ones and depend on specific geological conditions, construction plans, local road situations, infrastructure availability, etc.
What size domes have you built?
Completed dome structures range from 11.5 m in diameter (11 agricultural structures in Poland) to 70 m (a baseball stadium in Taiwan). The cement clinker silos in Poland are 64 m in diameter and 47 m high.
Capacities range from a 15,000-ton dome warehouse for PJSC «Akron» to a complex of dome warehouses with a total capacity of 1 million tons for the «Ultramar» terminal in Ust-Luga.

Construction technology
How is a reinforced concrete dome built?
Construction follows these stages: foundation, airform, thermal insulation layer, steel frame and shotcrete.
The airform is inflated, polyurethane foam is applied to its inner surface, then reinforcement is mounted and shotcreting is carried out along the entire perimeter of the structure. After the shotcrete sets, the reinforcement of the next level begins, followed by subsequent shotcreting.
TechnologyWhat is an airform?
The airform is a tent made of architectural polyester-vinyl reinforced fabric.
Throughout the construction period, the airform is inflated with air to maintain the necessary pressure inside the dome. After construction is complete, the airform serves as the external covering of the dome, so the color and quality of the fabric are chosen based on environmental requirements.
What foundation does a dome warehouse need?
The foundation is designed either as a ring beam or as a round solid slab and is reinforced with ring and radial reinforcement. Around the perimeter, reinforcement releases are arranged for fastening the airform and for tying the reinforcement of the load-bearing reinforced concrete shell.
How is the dome insulated?
A special two-component polyurethane mixture is applied to the entire inner surface of the airform. The thickness of the thermal insulation layer depends on the purpose of the structure and climatic conditions.
What is shotcrete and why is it used?
A special cement-sand mixture is uniformly applied to the steel reinforcement frame. After setting and hardening, shotcrete together with the reinforcement forms a single high-strength reinforced concrete frame capable of withstanding design loads with a large margin of strength and stability.
Can a dome have windows and doors?
Yes. Organizing openings (windows, doors, etc.) in the shell requires additional reinforcement around the perimeter of the openings.
